How To Get Rid Of Dust All Over Your House
To understand how to get rid of dust in your home, follow the steps below with QueenBee. In no time, your home will be gleaming and speck-free.
How Frequently Should You Dust Your House?
You’ll need more than a feather duster to get rid of dust for good (or at least for a time). To keep dust out of your home, we recommend giving it a good dusting/cleaning at least once a month for easy-to-reach places like your ceiling fan and upholstery. Every three to six months, tackle more challenging areas such as high windows and ceilings, little items such as picture frames, and shelves.
What You’ll Require
Instruments / Tools
- Dusting Equipment
- 1 piece of microfiber cloth
- 1 bar mop towel or paper towel roll
- 1 canister vacuum cleaner with a round brush attachment
Materials and Cleaning Supplies
- 1 glass cleaner
- 1 all-purpose cleaner
Instructions
- Gather the Required Materials
Typical feather dusters, as well as some Swiffer dusting products, do not truly take up dust; rather, they simply transport it from one location to another. What is the solution? A textile made of microfibre.
If you haven’t already, microfiber is the holy grail of dusting materials. Instead of just dispersing or spreading dust, the tough fabric catches and gathers it up. When the cloth becomes soiled, you can either wash it in the washer and dryer or hand-wash it; both procedures are effective. A pack of microfiber cloths can be purchased online for a few dollars and are completely effective, reusable, and well worth the money.
- Work from the ceiling to the floor.
You might be tempted to dust the first thing you see at eye level now that you’re armed with your favorite microfiber. But be careful.
First, place your microfiber duster on a pole and wrap it over the ceiling fan blades. This is especially important for ceiling fans. Nothing kills a clean like turning on a dusty ceiling fan and witnessing the room fill up with dust particles like a dirty snowstorm.
Dampen your microfiber cloth, spritz it with one spray of your favorite all-purpose cleaner, and gently wipe the high surfaces clean.
- Utilize a Canister Vacuum whenever possible
Use a lightweight vacuum with a strap on shelves, on top of cabinets, in molding, and anywhere else you wish to dust thoroughly. You should hold the vacuum in your hand before purchasing it to ensure that it is light enough to lift with one hand. To avoid scratching anything while dusting, use the vacuum’s dusting cup attachment.
Check that the vacuum has a HEPA filter. Vacuums push part of the dust they collect back into the room you just cleaned. HEPA filters really collect dust (and, if you have pets, they are great at capturing pet dander), making your dusting job much more effective.
- Microfiber can also be used on glass surfaces.
Microfiber is the finest option for dusting any surface in your home. There are also special microfiber towels designed exclusively for glass to ensure streak-free shine, making glass cleaning a breeze. For the cleanest finish, use a microfiber cloth on glass or wood.
- Take it all the way down to the baseboards.
You’ll finish up on your baseboards once you’ve gone from the light fixtures and ceiling fans down through the countertops and knick-knacks. If you’ve never dusted your baseboards, (1) we won’t tell anyone, and (2) you won’t believe how much of a difference it makes in making your home feel professionally cleaned.
To begin, vacuum the surface with a round brush attachment (canister vacuums typically come with these, but if not, they are affordable and easily bought at any hardware shop or on Amazon).
Then, take your microfiber cloth and spritz it once or twice with your preferred all-purpose cleaner before wiping it down. If your baseboards have become scuffed and neglected, a Magic Eraser can bring them back to life.
